Alaska Land Expansion: 20 to 40 Acres

BREAKING NEWS!
We just closed on 20 acres of adjacent properties and now increased our Alaskan landholdings from 20 acres to 40!!!

Savanna ran into a neighbor a month ago at the Anchor Point flea market where the neighbor mentioned that she was putting her property on the market in the coming weeks (for an unimaginably low price) and that she had posted in on Facebook without any leads.

We have DREAMED of buying the adjacent lot for years, but we never dreamed that both of the lots would go for sale at the same time, and definitely not for the price.

So after doing some soul searching, bank calling, and money earning- we leaped at the deal. Last week, we signed the closing documents and wired 30% of the total loan to the seller and the next morning our 20 acres of land turned into 40. We have agreed to a two year loan with a monthly payment of $833 until the land is paid off completely, and while it may be a steep payment for our family- it’s worth it.

While much of the land out here in Anchor Point/Happy Valley is deemed “unusable” due to wetlands, muskeg, and lack of roads, there is enough land on the two ten acres lots for our family to work for the rest of our lives. The 20 acres is directly on the road with high and dry land, a great stand of birch, spruce, and cottonwood trees and a nice gathering of Honeyberries.

The land expansion will ensure that our children have a forest to play in, land to build their own cabins or houses, expansion of fruit and food production, and a buffer zone between us and the neighbors. It will also alter the future of our neighborhood and community hopefully for the positive.

For a road that used to have a very bad reputation for legitimate reasons, our little country road is turning into a very healthy neighborhood for families to live and thrive on.

The westward expansion of my ancestors has continued, and we are three hundred feet closer to Cook Inlet.

Congratulations! What a stroke of Lady Luck and timing. I am so happy for you!

The quote “Buy land, they’re not making it anymore” is attributed to Mark Twain. It’s a well-known saying highlighting the finite nature of land and its potential value as an investment. The quote emphasizes that while the human population continues to grow, the amount of available land remains fixed, making it a potentially valuable asset.

Yes indeed! It seems as if land keeps being bought up and the price keeps going higher and higher, so instead of fighting against it why not buy some up for our little family dynasty! I often wonder, ‘How did _____ afford to buy property/house right here?’ And then I remember, the people who bought the place that I am admiring probably bought it before it cost so much. It’s all about being in the right place at the right time, and it just so happened that we were for this deal.
